Vacation Tips For People With Hypertension

Vacationing is very good for dealing with stress, but sometimes vacationing can actually create new stress. For example, if we get stuck in a severe traffic jam when going to tourist attractions, we will automatically be stressed. In addition, sometimes the tourist attractions we visit are too full, making us less satisfied or uncomfortable. In fact, for those who have hypertension, stress while on vacation can make their health condition worse.

Can hypertension sufferers go on vacation?

Of course you can. Anyone can go on vacation because it can make the mind and body become fresher. Only, people with hypertension do have to be very clever in managing their lifestyle during the holidays such as maintaining a healthy diet and managing stress as well as possible.

Here are some things to note for people with hypertension during the holidays

1. Don't eat carelessly

Unlike when at home, during the holidays we cannot cook our own food so there is a possibility that the food we ordered has a salt or fat content that is not good for people with hypertension. If allowed, ask the food seller to provide a small amount of salt. If we want to eat foods with a high salt content, be sure to limit the amount. Also make sure to note what foods and drinks are consumed so that we can determine the amount so it is not excessive.

2. Avoid coffee

Many interesting places to eat or cafes to visit in tourist attractions. No problem to visit it, but hypertension sufferers should not order coffee because this drink can significantly influence blood pressure conditions.

3. Be aware of various causes of stress

Although a vacation can make us enjoy new places that are beautiful and pleasant, it could be that we experience unpleasant events such as traffic jams, pickpocketing, or an accident that can increase blood pressure. If you experience these things, try to do breathing exercises, listen to soothing music, get some fresh air, and do other things that can make the mind become much calmer.

4. Be sure to take medication regularly

People with hypertension must take medication on time to control their blood pressure. This means, during the holidays, these drugs must also be consumed regularly. If you are in the middle of a trip, be sure to bring supplies and drinks so you can continue to take your medication on schedule. If necessary, set a warning alarm to take medication or ask a friend or family member who goes on vacation to remind us to consume it.

5. Don't forget to exercise

Even though you are on vacation, don't forget to do sports because lack of physical activity can also impact on rising blood pressure. If we are on vacation to a place close to natural landscapes such as beaches or mountains, be diligent on foot to enjoy the views of these locations. Other sports such as swimming in the hotel pool or renting bicycles to get around the tourist sites are also highly recommended.

6. Get enough sleep

Do not get a lack of sleep just because of too enjoying a pleasant vacation spot. Health experts ask people with hypertension to sleep seven to eight hours every night to keep blood pressure normal. If indeed the clock has shown that it is quite late, hurry home so you can get enough sleep.

7. Check blood pressure

If you do have your own blood pressure measuring device, bring it along with other luggage while on vacation so we can check the condition of blood pressure. If you do not have this equipment, go to the health center, or the nearest clinic to check it regularly.

By doing various things that we have discussed before, hypertension sufferers can still feel comfortable while on vacation and will not experience dangerous blood pressure increases.
